Local Knowledge Matters

Partnear was established to work on the projects that we interact with. We like to be PART of the projects NEAR to us. The process, delivery and final use of the projects we interact with provide us with a sense of reward. Not only do we live in our respective communities across our broad and growing service geography, but many of us have lived and worked in many regions and countries. We interact with the outcomes we deliver, we've been part of community committees, and we've worked at small private firms, and various levels of Government and multi-national firms. We understand the environment we play in from many perspectives.

The work we do plays a pivotal role in shaping the culture, infrastructure and development of any region. With increasing globalisation, there has been a tendency for clients and local governments to hire firms from outside their region. However, employing firms who are familiar with the area's cultural and political nuances, labour and supply constraints, as well as applicable standards, can lead to better outcomes for our clients and projects.

As a local design and project management firm working in many sectors and with a diverse range of clientele, we possess a wealth of knowledge about local needs, issues, the labour market and the supply chain. We understand the available workforce, the skillsets of local tradespeople, and the capabilities of nearby suppliers, the local economic drivers and changes in market conditions. This familiarity allows us to make informed decisions regarding selecting the most suitable design variables, contractors, suppliers, and methods of project delivery. Consequently, this can lead to reduced costs, streamlined processes, and the delivery of more effective, high-quality projects in a timely manner.

We often see firms from out of region specifying materials not readily accessible locally, construction methodologies that local firms do not process or materials or work practices that cannot be supported locally because the design references capital city metropolitan standards and practices that do not apply or scale well in regional areas. This means our clients frequently have tenders not responded too, costs that blow out as travel costs are involved from specialist contractor or assets they have no capacity or capability to operate and maintain.

The benefits of designing and configuring to employ locals mean you'll get local support, and grow local capability for future projects. In many cases, it also results in lower delivery and life-cycle costs.

In a world where globalisation is increasingly the norm, it's important to remember the value that local expertise brings to the table. By investing in locals, clients and local governments can reap the rewards of efficient, high-quality projects that positively impact the community as a whole.
